I NEED YOUR OPINIONS! Please read and reply if you have time!
So I’m devising a strategy for doing educational videos. Not just process, but actual educational ones that address the more underlying foundational skills required for illustration and concept\vis-dev. Right now I’m just playing with the Camtasia studio trial, and this was made from a really old Livestream, thus the absolutely atrocious resolution, for which I apologize profusely.
SO HERE’S THE QUESTION OF THE DAY!
If I were to start a Patreon... uh, “campaign”, would you subscribe? This is VERY loose thinking, but I want to gauge public opinion before pouring energy into this.
(amounts are per video because these may not follow a strict schedule :x)
FREE- Most of the videos will be free and public, because I don’t want to hide this info behind a paywall!
$1 Tier- The “thank you” level. This is just for people who feel what I do is important enough to them to give something :)
$3 Tier- LiveCrit level. You will send me a sketch or painting that I will do a public critique video on. These may be short, but I don’t plan on “charging” the Patrons for them. Your $5 will only go towards the mainstream videos.
$5 Tier- LiveCrit+PSD level. LiveCrit, and you will get medium-res(~2k) PSD’s from any videos that have drawings or paintings.
Above this, I am trying to figure out how to use Patreon to do actual mentorships over Google Hangout or Skype. It’s something I’ve wanted to do but haven’t found a good platform yet. Let me know if you’d be interested in the mentorship thing.
The money will mean I can spend more time on these videos, and less time doing freelance to pay off student loans :) I can also spend the money to do special features, bringing in pro artists to talk about certain subjects and pay them for their time.
Again, these won’t be vague “speedpaint” videos, they will be in-depth foundation videos talking about both theory, and demonstrating application in the field. The main things I want to cover are
-Illustration and Design Foundations
-Criticism, Philosophy, and Theory (Including topics on motivation, inspiration, goals, social justice, learning- the more mental side of the coin.)
So… Would you pay? If not, what could convince you? (feel free to answer via replies, or asks, or reblogs :>)

Sentai Claus time lapse video.
Character created by Thomas Perkins.
A job from early last year that fell through. I found it while looking through some old files. Not sure if I ever posted them.
Not exactly Twitch Plays Pokemon fanart, but watching them go through Crystal got me in a nostalgic mood.
Reilly abstraction and limited palette to burnt sienna, black and white
I was thinking maybe Jeffry is always getting new glasses cuz they always break when the full moon comes round.
For Giant Woman - This episode was the last one I was able to be a full bg painter on before taking over as art director - It meant a lot to me to be able to paint this gorgeous location. Sam Bosma designed the BG’s and Jasmin Lai helped me out with additional BG paint and also some amazing zip pans which are an art in and of themselves (you all should all go ask her to post them for you to see!!)

Pass this along students!
I’ve written about my process in the past, but I think it’s important to regularly update as there are always tweaks to be made in an effort to grow.
With that in mind, let’s explore the process behind my card design for Light Grey Art Lab’s RoleModels show!
I had a pretty…
